- JOB PURPOSE / DESCRIPTION
- To coordinate the development and implementation of social safeguard tools for ZESCO Projects and operations and ensure that social issues related to ZESCO’s operations are well managed and that new projects are subjected to sound social management to avoid delays in implementation and loss of money through unnecessary compensations.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 Certificate with 5 ‘0’ level pass
Bachelor of Arts Degree in any social related field.
Masters in any Environment or Social related field would be an added advantage.
Vocational and Professional Qualifications
Membership in a relevant body
- EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENT
- • Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience.
- JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare all Social Risk Diligence Reports
Assist in training team members on social risk matters
Compile all social economic data in preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments
Assist in preparing Gantt charts for social impacts on all ZESCO projects
Assist in Preparing the Corporate Environmental Policy
Carry out Social Monitoring and Evaluation on all ZESCO projects
Carry out data collection and interpretation, using the information to create solutions for compensation and resettlement problems
Assist in performing historical research to determine the extent and causes of environmental changes on ZESCO
Carry out Preparations in monthly, quarterly, annual reports
Create data management systems for reporting and analysis
Articulate and communicate due diligence requirement and opportunities to Management
Promote and raise awareness of the business Impact of emerging social risks such as compensation, Gender Based Violence and other emerging Social issues
Undertake the development and maintenance of social aspects and impact risks register.
Performed periodically (Weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually)
Co-ordination of work schedules for ESD staff
Social Monitoring and Evaluation of Resettlement and Compensation activities and other social safeguard tools on projects
Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting writing for ESD.
Performed at irregular intervals
Coordination and conducting social impact assessments
Conducting and coordination of social safeguard audits
Attending meetings on various committees on behalf of ZESCO
Co-ordination and conducting environmental training and awareness for ZESCO staff
Organizing stakeholder meetings/Public participation meetings in project areas to enhance project acceptability.
Any other tasks, as may from time to time, be assigned by Supervisor
(e) Required Skills
Ability to conduct Risk Assessment and Social Risk diligence
Knowledge in critical stages of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
Preparation and Coordination of Social Impact Assessment (SIAs) as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment
Knowledge in development and implementation of other social safeguard tools such as Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Resettlement and Compensation Action Plan, Social monitoring and evaluation, Grievance Redress Mechanism, Livelihood Restoration initiatives/programs
Capacity to Prepare and implement Corporate Environmental Policy
Capacity to Articulate and communicate due diligence requirement and opportunities to management
Knowledge of International Environmental Safeguard policies and guidelines such as SAPP, World Bank, IFC and ADB among others.
Capacity to Prepare and implement Environmental and Social Management Plans
Knowledge of stakeholder identification, categorization and mapping
Have experience in promoting and raising awareness of the business impact of emerging social risks as Compensation, Gender Based Violence and other emerging social issues.
